7.6-magnitude earthquake strikes offshore from southern Philippines

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern Philippines on October 10, causing significant damage, power outages, and at least one reported death from falling debris.

The quake prompted warnings of a potential tsunami, leading to evacuations in coastal areas. Buildings, including schools and an airport in Davao City, reported cracks but remained operational.

Rescue efforts are being organized as officials assess the damage. At least 50 students were hospitalized for injuries related to the quake.

Small tsunami waves were detected, but the threat has since passed. The Philippines frequently experiences such disasters due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire."
