Stabbings and slashings surge across New York City

SUMMARY

Stabbings and slashings in New York City have increased by 6%, with 3,582 incidents reported this year by August 11. Fatalities have also risen, with 60 deaths compared to 54 last year.

Veteran MTA conductor Alton Scott, attacked this year, expressed concern over the ongoing violence, stating, “There’s no reason for so much crime to go on.”

The surge is linked to increased juvenile and gang crimes, along with emotionally distressed individuals. Experts say many are resorting to knives as guns are targeted by police. The NYPD reported an 11% rise in arrests for stabbings this year.
