Army air defense systems deploy to Arctic, Africa for 1st time

SUMMARY

The Army's new air defense system has deployed for the first time in both the Arctic and Africa. The Sgt. STOUT vehicle, which features Stinger missiles and a 30mm cannon, participated in a live-fire exercise with NATO allies in Norway. During Exercise Formidable Shield 2025, air defenders engaged drones simulating low-altitude threats.

Meanwhile, the Avenger Air Defense System was deployed in Tunisia as part of the African Lion exercise, marking its first use on the continent. "By integrating our systems with those of our allies," said Col. Haileyesus Bairu, "we ensure that any potential adversary faces a unified, technologically advanced defense."
