Green youth leader considers armed resistance against the AfD
Jette Nietzard, chairwoman of the Green Youth Party, has stirred controversy by suggesting that armed resistance might be necessary against the AfD if the right-wing party were to become part of a government in Germany.
She stated, "What does resistance look like then? Is it intellectual, perhaps with weapons?"
Nietzard stressed the need for society to prepare for defending democratic institutions, mentioning potential scenarios in 2029.
When asked if she'd oppose the "will of the voters," she responded, "Against fascism."
Her recent activity follows prior scandals, including wearing an “ACAB” sweater and controversially referring to the Hamas terrorist attack as "military operations," which led to accusations of anti-Semitism.
She later apologized for the latter incident.
AfD leader Weidel says: "Green youth leader Nietzard brings armed struggle against the AfD into play. This crosses the line. The Greens must distance themselves unequivocally from this attack on our free and democratic basic order!"
Update 29/07/25: Green Youth leader, Jette Nietzard, does not want to stand for re-election anymore. The 26-year-old just announced this on the social network Instagram. She will remain in office until the new federal board of the Greens youth organization is elected at the federal congress in Leipzig in mid-October.
