South Korea reports North Korea launched missiles into its eastern waters

SUMMARY

North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles into its eastern sea, escalating regional tensions. South Korea's military reported multiple launches from Wonsan between 8:10 and 9:20 a.m., with the farthest missile traveling about 800 kilometers. Joint Chiefs spokesperson Lee Sung Joon suggested these tests might relate to North Korea's weapons export plans, particularly amid its support for Russia in Ukraine. The missile launches were termed "a clear act of provocation" by South Korea, which is sharing intelligence with the U.S. and Japan. Japanese officials confirmed no missiles reached their economic zone.
