States sue Trump over $100,000 fee for H-1B visas

California and other states are suing the Trump administration over a new policy imposing a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications. They claim this fee threatens key industries, public education, and healthcare services. Attorney General Rob Bonta stated, “As the world’s fourth largest economy, California knows that when skilled talent from around the world joins our workforce, it drives our state forward.”

The administration has described the H-1B program as exploited and a security threat. Critics argue this fee will worsen labor shortages in essential sectors like education and healthcare. The lawsuit emphasizes existing safeguards in the program against wage violations.
