Suspect in Brown University shooting and MIT professor murder found dead

SUMMARY

Claudio Neves Valente, a former Brown University student, has been identified as the gunman in the fatal shooting at Brown and the murder of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro. Valente, 48, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a week-long manhunt.

He opened fire at Brown University, killing two students and injuring nine others. Valente previously studied with Loureiro in Portugal. Authorities say witnesses involved in the Brown Shooting reported Valente was barking like a dog during the attack, others witnesses claimed he said nothing.

Authorities also linked him to Loureiro's murder through surveillance footage and rental car records. Valente managed to evade capture using methods to disguise his location. The motive for his actions remains unclear.
