Death toll from Indonesia school collapse rises to 14 as more victims found

The death toll from the collapse of a boarding school in Indonesia's East Java province has reached 14. The Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo had hundreds of students inside when it fell, initially killing at least five and injuring around 100.

Rescuers found nine additional bodies, while 49 people remain missing. National Disaster Mitigation Agency chief Suharyanto stated that victim identification is difficult due to many victims being under 18 without identification.

The rescue efforts are challenged by unstable conditions and an earthquake that interrupted operations. Investigators suspect substandard construction may have contributed to the tragedy.
