Mojtaba Khamenei escaped death by seconds, leaked audio reveals

SUMMARY

Leaked audio has revealed that Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei survived the U.S.-Israeli missile strikes that killed his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Mojtaba stepped outside the family residence “to do something” only moments before Israeli Blue Sparrow ballistic missiles slammed into the compound at 9:32 a.m. local time on February 28.

He was heading upstairs when the building was destroyed.

Mazaher Hosseini, head of protocol for Ali Khamenei’s office, described the attack in a March 12 meeting with senior clerics and IRGC commanders. The recording was leaked to The Telegraph and independently verified.

Mojtaba suffered only a minor leg injury. His wife Zahra Haddad and son were killed instantly. His brother-in-law Misbah al-Huda Bagheri Kani was decapitated.

Military bureau chief Mohammad Shirazi was blown to pieces; only a few kilos of flesh remained for identification.

The strikes hit multiple residences simultaneously inside the compound, including Ali Khamenei’s meeting room, Mojtaba’s upper-floor home and the residence below.

Hosseini said the missiles were aimed at wiping out the entire Khamenei family line.

Ali Khamenei, IRGC chief Mohammad Pakpour and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh were among those killed.

Mojtaba’s brother Mostafa and his wife escaped with minor injuries from falling rubble in a third residence.

None of Ali Khamenei’s other children have appeared publicly since the attack.

The audio raises fresh questions about Mojtaba’s condition and his sudden elevation to supreme leader.

U.S. intelligence previously assessed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei viewed his son as unqualified.
