CBS will cancel “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” in May, citing a “purely financial decision.”

This cancellation ends a late-night franchise that has run for over 30 years. CBS president George Cheeks explained that the decision was made due to financial challenges in the late-night landscape, stating, “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Cheeks acknowledged the admiration for Colbert and his team, emphasizing that it made the decision even harder.
