China unveils bionic antelope robot to observe endangered Tibetan species

China has introduced a bionic Tibetan antelope robot in Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve to monitor endangered antelope populations. The robot, developed by DEEP Robotics, uses 5G and AI to collect data without disturbing the animals. Its lifelike appearance helps it blend in with real antelope herds, allowing for unobtrusive observation.

This deployment is a significant advancement in wildlife conservation, especially in Hoh Xil’s harsh conditions. The robot can track migration patterns and send alerts to prevent road collisions. Project leader Lian Xinming noted the system enhances ecological data collection while minimizing human impact, potentially leading to more AI-assisted wildlife monitoring globally.
