Italian police fire tear gas at protesters near Olympics venue

About 10,000 people protested in Milan on the opening day of the Winter Olympics, opposing housing costs and environmental issues related to the Games.

During the demonstration, police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse a splinter group of about 100 protesters. Six arrests were made as some protesters reportedly used firecrackers and smoke bombs near Olympic venues.

One protester criticized the urgent development of Olympic infrastructure, claiming it bypassed necessary laws.

Additionally, there was opposition to the deployment of U.S. immigration agents for athlete security, despite no confirmation of their presence in Italy.
