Twelve killed in shooting targeting Jewish community at Australia's Bondi Beach

At least 11 people were killed and one attacker shot dead in a mass shooting at Bondi Beach during a Jewish celebration.

Twenty-nine others were hospitalized, including two police officers. NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon labeled the incident a "terrorist incident," targeting Sydney's Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah.

Witnesses described chaos as "about 50 gunshots" rang out. A bystander tackled a shooter and seized a rifle, while hundreds fled the scene. NSW Premier Chris Minns condemned the "horrifying evil attack." Two suspects have been detained as authorities work to disarm potential explosives in the area.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his condolences, stating, "My thoughts are with every person affected."
