China mobilizes 'staggering' naval presence in Taiwan Strait

China has deployed a significant number of naval vessels in the Taiwan Strait, totaling about 90 ships, alongside the announcement of extensive airspace zones in the Pacific. This move follows Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te's visit to the U.S. to strengthen ties. The Chinese military displayed its power with a larger-than-usual deployment that included 47 fighter aircraft.

Taiwan defense official Lieutenant General Hsieh Jih-sheng noted that these actions have heightened concerns among nearby countries. A spokesperson for China reiterated its claim over Taiwan, stating, “Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory.” Taiwan officials emphasized that China's actions pose a broader challenge to regional stability.
