Trump's education dept ends free tuition for illegals

The Department of Education has revoked a Clinton-era rule that allowed illegal immigrants to access taxpayer funds for technical and career schools. The Trump administration claims this was in violation of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon stated, “Postsecondary education programs funded by the federal government should benefit American citizens, not illegal aliens.” Starting August 9, 2025, the new interpretation will be enforced, ensuring that federal funds are reserved for citizens and those who entered the U.S. legally. The agency is also targeting states that offer educational benefits to illegal immigrants.
