DOJ investigating Tim Walz and Jacob Frey over conspiracy to impede immigration agents
The Justice Department is investigating Minnesota officials, including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, for allegedly conspiring to obstruct federal immigration agents. This comes after nearly 3,000 ICE and Border Patrol officers were deployed to Minneapolis to arrest suspected undocumented individuals. The federal agents' presence has led to protests, particularly after the death of a local resident by an ICE officer.
Walz and Frey have condemned the federal actions, claiming they endanger public safety. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated: "Walz and Frey- I'm focused on stopping YOU from your terrorism by whatever means necessary." The inquiry is based on a federal statute prohibiting obstruction of federal officials, highlighting tensions between local leaders and federal law enforcement.
