Poland discovers its largest oil and gas field near German border

SUMMARY

Poland may have discovered its largest oil and gas field, with reserves potentially meeting a quarter of its annual consumption.

Central European Petroleum announced the find near the German border, reporting 22 million tons of crude oil and 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas from a well in the Baltic Sea. Total reserves in the area could exceed 33 million tons of oil and 27 billion cubic meters of gas.

"This could be a breakthrough in the Polish energy sector," noted the chief geologist. This discovery could enhance Poland's energy security, reducing reliance on external suppliers.

Currently, Poland sources most of its gas from American and Qatari LNG and Norway, following a halt in Russian gas deliveries.
