Norway to monitor airborne radioactivity in Svalbard

SUMMARY

Starting October 1st, the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) will manage an air filter station near Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard. This transition follows the Finnish Meteorological Institute's decision to stop its air monitoring there. The DSA aims to enhance Norway's monitoring of airborne radioactivity and improve nuclear preparedness.

Markus Ottosen from the DSA stated, "This will be an important supplement to our already existing network of air filter stations in Norway." The station has been operational since 2000, joining the data from another station managed by NORSAR.
