Denmark to bans social media for under-15s

Denmark is set to become one of the first EU countries to ban social media for children under 15 due to mental health concerns. Parents can grant access for children aged 13 and older on certain platforms. This decision follows a call from Minister Mette Frederiksen for social media restrictions in her parliamentary speech.

Digitalization Minister Caroline Stage Olsen stated, “The so-called social media thrive on stealing our children's time, childhood and well being.” The ban targets popular platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Critics express concerns about implementation and social connections. Similar laws have been enacted in Australia and discussed in other countries, including France and Norway.
