Judge orders ICE chief to appear in court

SUMMARY

A federal judge in Minnesota has ordered the head of ICE, Todd Lyons, to appear in court to explain why detainees are not receiving due process. Chief Judge Patrick J. Schiltz criticized the Trump administration for failing to provide hearings for detained immigrants.

He expressed frustration, stating, “Respondents have continually assured the Court that they recognize their obligation to comply with Court orders, and that they have taken steps to ensure that those orders will be honored going forward.” This order follows the death of two individuals related to ICE actions. The judge noted that he would cancel Lyons' appearance if the petitioner is released before Friday.
