751 foot ship explodes in Maryland near former Francis Scott Key Bridge

A W-Sapphire 751-foot bulk carrier cargo ship exploded in the Patapsco River near the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was struck by a cargo ship last year and collapsed.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded to an explosion aboard the vessel. Petty Officer Matthew West confirmed that there were no reported injuries. The fire has been contained and the ship is being removed from the channel.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Local authorities, including Baltimore City police and fire department, are assisting the Coast Guard in the situation.
