UPS cargo jet Initial report released

SUMMARY

Federal regulators released a report on the UPS cargo plane crash in Kentucky, which killed 14 people. The investigation found "evidence of fatigue cracks" in the left pylon, where the engine separated during takeoff. Surveillance video showed the left engine detaching, resulting in a fireball.

The plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, was over 30 years old. Boeing, which merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997, faces scrutiny as its stock fell nearly 4%, while GE Aerospace shares also dropped.

The crash, which occurred on November 4, injured 23 others and raised questions about liability for Boeing regarding the incident.
