Brazil's Supreme Court chamber forms majority to uphold nationwide X ban

Brazil's Supreme Court upheld Justice Alexandre de Moraes' decision to suspend social media platform X for non-compliance with local laws. Justices Flavio Dino and Cristiano Zanin supported Moraes, forming a majority, while Justices Luiz Fux and Carmen Lucia had yet to vote.

X was taken down after missing a deadline to appoint a legal representative in Brazil. Moraes and owner Elon Musk have clashed over blocking accounts linked to misinformation and hate speech.

Justice Dino emphasized that companies must adhere to local rules, stating, "It is not possible for a company to operate in the territory of a country and intend to impose its vision on which rules should be valid or applied."
