25 dead in Texas floods, over 20 young girls missing from a summer camp
SUMMARY
At least 25 people have died and 20 remain unaccounted for in Texas due to severe flash flooding caused by heavy rain. The rain fell overnight, causing the Guadalupe River to flood. A 22-foot (6.7-meter) flood-water rise occurred in about two hours, and another rain gauge failed after recording 29.5 feet (9 meters).
Rescuers are searching for missing individuals, including girls from a summer camp. Kerr County officials reported at least 25 fatalities and 237 rescues so far.
The emergency alert system "failed," leaving many without sufficient warning. Meteorologists noted a rapid rise in the river, leading to disastrous flooding. Search and rescue efforts continue as authorities aim to locate more victims.
