Pope to remain hospitalized amid complex infection, Vatican says

Pope Francis is facing a "complex clinical picture" due to a polymicrobial respiratory tract infection, requiring further hospitalization, according to the Vatican.

Spokesman Matteo Bruni noted that the infection involves multiple pathogens, including viruses and bacteria, necessitating a change in treatment. There is no estimated timeframe for his stay in the hospital.

Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital in “fair” condition after bronchitis worsened. While a slight fever has resolved and his condition is currently “stable,” an appropriate hospital stay is still needed.
