US government aims to shift UFO discussion from speculation to science

SUMMARY

UFOs have intrigued Americans for years, often linked to science fiction. With limited government involvement, conspiracy theories about alien life have flourished. A 2019 poll revealed 68% of people believe the U.S. knows more about UFOs than it admits. To address these concerns, the government is increasing transparency regarding unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs).

Ryan Graves, a former Navy pilot, has advocated for the reporting of UAPs for national security reasons. Congress has held hearings, and in recent years, multiple government initiatives have aimed to identify and study UAPs. This includes the establishment of new offices and expert panels to investigate sightings.
