Boeing secures $2.8B contract to enhance US strategic SATCOM capabilities

SUMMARY

Boeing has secured a $2.8 billion contract from the U.S. Space Force for the Evolved Strategic Satellite Communications (ESS) program. This contract includes the development of two satellites, with options for two additional satellites to enhance U.S. nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) for the U.S. president and joint strategic global forces.

Cordell DeLaPena, U.S. Space Force Executive Officer, stated, “It’s a critical time to advance U.S. space capabilities to ensure peace through strength.” The new satellites promise greater capacity, flexibility, and resilience compared to current systems.

Boeing aims to deliver the first satellite by 2031, leveraging advanced technology to ensure reliable communication despite potential adversary disruptions.
