Trump's Director of National Counterterrorism Joe Kent, resigns
Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, resigned over his opposition to the U.S. war in Iran and what he described as Israel's influence on U.S. policy. Kent's departure highlights divisions among Republican supporters of Trump, particularly between interventionists and anti-interventionists.
In his resignation letter, Kent stated, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” arguing that Iran was not a threat and that pressure from Israel fueled the conflict. His resignation surprised many since few senior officials have publicly opposed Trump’s policies.
While some officials support a restrained foreign policy, Kent's action has garnered mixed reactions within the party. Critics, including Trump, dismissed his views, while others praised his courage. Polls show that, despite the war, most Republicans back Trump’s actions.
