Second judge blocks IRS from sharing taxpayer information with ICE

A second federal judge has blocked the IRS from sharing taxpayer residential addresses with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani cited potential violations of taxpayer privacy rights and the chilling effect on tax filing in immigrant communities as reasons for the ruling.

She also raised concerns about wrongful arrests due to mistaken identity, referencing a high-profile case in Minnesota. Talwani's ruling follows a similar decision from Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who found the information-sharing agreement unlawful.

The government is appealing Kollar-Kotelly's ruling, but it has not affected her order. ICE claims it has not used the shared information for deportations.
