Denmark to tackle deepfakes by giving people copyright to their own features

Denmark is introducing a new law to combat deepfakes, granting individuals copyright over their own body, facial features, and voice. This law is the first of its kind in Europe and aims to protect people from digital imitations that misuse their identities.

The Danish culture minister, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating it sends an "unequivocal message" about people's rights over their own likeness. If approved, the law will allow individuals to demand the removal of unauthorized online content, including realistic representations of artist performances.

The proposal is expected to be submitted for consultation soon, with broad support in parliament.
