Trump to invoke wartime act to carry out deportations to Guantanamo

President Trump plans to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to permit the summary deportation of certain migrants, including suspects linked to a Venezuelan gang, to Guantanamo Bay.

This law empowers presidents to detain and deport noncitizens from nations deemed to stage an "invasion" of the U.S. Those affected won't receive court hearings or asylum interviews, processing instead under emergency wartime authority.

Trump aims to combat foreign gangs and stated, "By invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, I will direct our government to use the full and immense power of federal and state law enforcement."

The implementation of this law may face legal challenges.
