NHS to test all 'trans' children for autism

SUMMARY

The NHS will implement new guidelines to screen children referred to gender clinics for neurodevelopmental conditions like autism and ADHD. This follows Baroness Cass's review, which found higher rates of these conditions among children with gender dysphoria.

Medics will assess each child's mental health, family relationships, and sexual development. The new approach aims to be more holistic compared to the previous model used by Tavistock’s clinic.

Critics warn the policy may still allow for the use of cross-sex hormones and fail to address wider societal issues affecting children. The new guidelines will undergo public consultation before launch later this year.
