National Public Data confirms 'hackers' stole Social Security numbers of 'nearly all Americans'

SUMMARY

Jerico Pictures Inc, also known as National Public Data, confirmed a data breach where "cybercriminals" obtained sensitive information, including Social Security numbers, during a hack in December 2023. The company stated that "the information that was suspected of being breached contained name, email address, phone number, social security number, and mailing address(es)."

NPD is facing at least eight lawsuits, including one from California resident Christopher Hoffman, who claims hackers listed a database of 2.9 billion people's personal data for sale on the dark web.

Affected users are advised to monitor financial accounts, contact credit reporting agencies, and stay vigilant against potential identity theft. NPD has promised to reach out to those impacted and has implemented new security measures to prevent future breaches.
