Danish zoo asks pet owners to donate rabbits and horses to feed its predators

Aalborg Zoo in Denmark is soliciting donations of small pets like chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs to be “gently euthanised” and fed to predators, including European lynx. The zoo emphasized that all donations will be handled by trained staff and promised that “nothing goes to waste.” They also accept horses, which require a passport for tax deduction purposes.

Pia Nielsen, the zoo's deputy director, stated that feeding carnivores with livestock is essential for their diet. Reactions to the appeal have been mixed, with some in support, while others criticized it as a “sick invention.” This practice is common in Denmark, allowing euthanised animals to serve a purpose.
