Canada labels India's Bishnoi gang as 'terrorist' organisation

SUMMARY

Canada has designated India's Bishnoi gang as a "terrorist" organization, allowing authorities to freeze assets and prosecute members under anti-terrorism laws. Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree stated the gang has instilled fear in communities across Canada.

He emphasized that specific communities have suffered from "terror, violence and intimidation" due to the gang. The Bishnoi gang, led by Lawrence Bishnoi, operates from India and is involved in drug trafficking and extortion.

Tensions between Canada and India have heightened amid accusations of India's involvement in silencing critics abroad. Canada’s move aims to strengthen law enforcement against the gang's activities.
