Jennifer L. Mnookin appointed as Columbia University's next President

SUMMARY

Columbia University has named Jennifer Mnookin, currently Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as its next president. Since taking the helm at UW-Madison in 2022, she has boosted its research ranking to fifth nationally, as per the National Science Foundation. Mnookin has also championed programs like Bucky’s Pell Pathway and Bucky’s Tuition Promise to enhance in-state student access.

Previously, she was the dean at UCLA School of Law, with a 17-year tenure on its faculty. She holds degrees from Harvard, Yale, and MIT. Her appointment follows a challenging period for Columbia involving financial penalties and leadership changes due to "antisemitism."

Mnookin, is the Jewish daughter of author and professor Robert Mnookin, whom has written various journals and novels from "The Internal Israeli Conflict: The Past, Present and Future of the Jewish West Bank/Gaza Settlements," to "The Jewish American Paradox."
