China warns citizens against Japan travel

China has issued a travel warning for its citizens against visiting Japan due to escalating tensions over comments made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that Takaichi's remarks have "further damaged the atmosphere for people-to-people exchanges." Chinese airlines started offering refunds for tickets to Japan after the warning.

Beijing's response comes after Takaichi suggested a Chinese attack on Taiwan could threaten Japan’s survival. This has led to heightened nationalist sentiments in China and official protests from both countries. Takaichi later described her comments as hypothetical and will refrain from similar statements in the future.
