Brazil joins South Africa's 'genocide' case against Israel at ICJ

Brazil has formally joined South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), alleging that Israel is committing "genocide" in Gaza. The ICJ confirmed Brazil's declaration of intervention under Article 63, which allows UN member states to intervene when a treaty's interpretation is at stake. This follows Brazil's denunciation of Israeli actions undermining international law.

Brazil now joins several countries, including Spain and Mexico, in supporting South Africa's case, which has reported over 65,000 Palestinian fatalities since October 2023. The ICJ’s interim orders in 2024 required Israel to prevent genocide and allow humanitarian access. However, Israel has ignored these rulings amid international condemnation.
