Ukraine sees mass power outages from 'technical malfunction'

Ukraine's power grid faced widespread outages due to a "technical malfunction" affecting connections with Moldova and Romania. This incident led to power disruptions in major cities, including a temporary suspension of Kyiv's metro system. While critical infrastructure power was restored by 2:00 PM, households may experience longer outages.

Around 800,000 daily metro passengers were affected, with stations serving as bomb shelters. The International Atomic Energy Agency reported a brief power cut at the Chernobyl site, but no nuclear safety risks were expected. The situation adds pressure to Ukraine's already strained energy grid, amid ongoing Russian attacks.
