The EU wants to decrypt your private data by 2030

The EU plans to enhance law enforcement's access to citizens’ data by 2030, as outlined in its ProtectEU strategy. This initiative stems from the High-Level Group’s report, which deems encryption a major challenge for police investigations.

Privacy advocates, including the Internet Society's Robin Wilton, warn that decryption efforts may introduce vulnerabilities and threaten cybersecurity. With rising cyberattacks prompting calls for stronger encryption, there is concern about the balance between privacy and law enforcement needs.
