US strike eliminates al Qaeda operative connected to ISIS in Syria

SUMMARY

U.S. Central Command confirmed the death of Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, an al Qaeda leader linked to the killings of two U.S. service members in Syria. The airstrike occurred on Friday, targeting a figure with ties to an ISIS attack that also claimed an American interpreter's life.

CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper stated, "The death of a terrorist operative linked to the deaths of three Americans demonstrates our resolve."

U.S. forces previously conducted extensive strikes against ISIS targets in response to the December attack.

Over 300 ISIS operatives have been apprehended this past year.
