Former Norwegian PM, attempted suicide shortly after being charged in connection to Jeffery Epstein

SUMMARY

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland attempted suicide a week ago, just days after authorities charged him with gross corruption tied directly to his close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Jagland is currently hospitalized after the attempt and remains in serious condition. The exact hospital has not been disclosed.

On February 12 police charged Jagland. At the exact same moment, officers conducted extensive searches of his Oslo apartment and Risør property. A large press corps was already waiting outside the Oslo location when authorities arrived.

To enable the full investigation, the Council of Europe revoked Jagland’s immunity the day before the raids after investigators formally requested it.

Documents show Jagland and his immediate family used Epstein’s private apartments in Paris and New York multiple times between 2011 and 2018. They also stayed at Epstein’s villa in Palm Beach, Florida.

Epstein covered travel costs for six adults in connection with at least one of those completed stays.

Separately, Jagland accepted an offer from Epstein to cover both travel and hotel costs for six adults on a trip to the Caribbean. That Caribbean journey ultimately never took place.

Jagland also asked Epstein for help securing a bank loan.

When reporters confronted him during the police operation, Jagland stated verbatim: “I have only one thing to say, and that's that I'm very glad the case is enlightened. Nothing more to say.” He added: “My lawyer has said enough.”

On February 17 major Norwegian media outlets and the Norwegian Editor’s Association entered an agreement with Jagland’s lawyer Anders Brosveet to reportedly suppress any reporting on the suicide attempt. iNews published anyway, citing press ethics rules that the public has the right to know and that media must not yield to pressure blocking open information.
