UK Supreme Court rules trans women are not women

SUMMARY

The Supreme Court ruled that transgender women should not be legally recognized as women. Lord Hodge stated that "the terms 'woman' and 'sex' in the 2010 Equality Act referred to biological sex, not acquired gender."

He emphasized that the decision should not be interpreted as a victory for one group over another.

The Equality Act 2010 still protects transgender individuals against discrimination based on gender reassignment, as well as direct and indirect discrimination and harassment.
