Trump plans addition of Christopher Columbus statue to White House grounds

President Donald Trump plans to erect a statue of Christopher Columbus on the White House grounds, according to a report. This statue is a reconstruction of one that was destroyed during racial justice protests in 2020. It will be placed near the Ellipse, with possible transfer from Maryland occurring soon.

Trump has long praised Columbus, whom he considers a hero. "In this White House, Christopher Columbus is a hero," said Trump spokesman Davis Ingle. Trump also promised to celebrate Columbus Day and signed an order recognizing Columbus as “the original American hero.”

This statue will be part of broader changes Trump has initiated at the White House, including a new ballroom and other renovations in Washington, D.C.
