'alleged coup plot'
Brazil's chief prosecutor calls to find Bolsonaro guilty of a coup
SUMMARY
Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro is on trial for allegedly inciting a coup following his 2022 election defeat. Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet states that "the evidence is clear: the defendant acted systematically" to disrupt democracy. Bolsonaro denies the charges, labeling the trial a "witch hunt."
He faces accusations of leading a criminal organization and attempting to undermine law and order. The prosecution has extensive evidence, including recordings and notes, against him. The Supreme Court will soon decide whether to convict. If found guilty, he could face up to 12 years in prison.
