Texas Democrats head to Illinois to deny Republicans a quorum on redistricting

In a bold strategy against GOP redistricting, about 30 Texas House Democrats are heading to Illinois to deny quorum for Republican efforts. They plan to stay for a week, supported by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu stated, “We’re leaving Texas to fight for Texans.” He condemned the proposed congressional map as an attempt to "steal the voices of millions of Black and Latino Texans." The new map aims to gain five GOP seats in the upcoming midterms by targeting Democratic incumbents, especially in urban areas.

While taking this stand, Texas Democrats risk fines and possible arrest for leaving the state.
