Fico threatens to cut Ukraine's emergency power

SUMMARY

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened to cut emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine unless oil flows are restored by Monday. He stated, “If the Ukrainian president does not resume oil supplies to Slovakia on Monday, on that same day I will ask the relevant Slovak companies to stop emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.”

Oil transit from Russia has been interrupted since January due to a strike on the Druzhba pipeline. Fico accused President Zelenskyy of treating Slovakia poorly, noting the economic losses from halted gas and oil supplies.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán echoed these sentiments and threatened to block an EU loan for Ukraine until oil transit resumes. Ukraine denied the accusations, citing damage from Russian attacks.
