Trump tells The Post the war against Iran won't last 'much longer'
President Trump stated that the war with Iran is likely to end soon as U.S. forces continue what he described as the total obliteration of the country.
“We’re obliterating the s–t out of them right now, it’s a total obliteration,” Trump told The Post in a phone interview. “We won’t have to be there much longer — but we have more work to do in terms of killing their offensive, whatever offensive capability they have left.”
Trump posted video footage on Truth Social showing a massive explosion near Isfahan, a city outside one of Iran’s primary nuclear facilities. He described the blast as surprisingly large and said it hit “a lot of stuff,” confirming the strikes targeted Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
On the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has closed for over a month, Trump insisted other nations dependent on the waterway should reopen it themselves.
“Well, I think it’ll automatically open, but my attitude is, I’ve obliterated the country,” he said. “They have no strength left, and let the countries that are using the strait, let them go and open it.”
Trump claimed the military campaign has achieved regime change in Iran.
“We’re dealing right now with a totally different group of people, and they’re much more reasonable than previous,” he said. “And that is truly regime change.”
Despite forecasting a rapid end to the conflict, the administration continues to deploy thousands of additional U.S. troops to the region, including two Marine Corps amphibious ready groups and Army parachute specialists.
