Finnish MP reveals past in prostitution

Finnish MP Anna Kontula disclosed her past as a sex worker in a recent interview, stating she is unashamed of her experience. Kontula began escorting at 16 due to financial hardships and curiosity.

Currently serving her fourth term, she has been an advocate for sex worker rights, co-founding the sex workers’ union SALLI and publishing articles on public perceptions of the industry. Although she plans to leave politics to become a social worker, she believes speaking out can benefit social debate on sex work.

Her revelation has faced criticism, with some arguing that normalizing sex work doesn't enhance societal freedom or fairness. Prostitution is legal in Finland with specific restrictions.
