Congress passes 'Big Beautiful Bill,' a major win for Trump

SUMMARY

Donald Trump's major tax and spending bill has passed in Congress, marking a significant victory for his administration. The House voted 218-214 after the Senate passed it with a narrow margin. Trump set a deadline of July 4 for the bill's completion.

The Congressional Budget Office predicts the bill could add $3.3 trillion to federal deficits and reduce health coverage for millions. Despite this, it fulfills many of Trump's campaign promises, including making the 2017 tax cuts permanent, roughly $150 billion for a border wall and enforcement and expanding AI technologies.

The bill also allocates funds for border security and military expenditures. Democratic opposition featured an extensive speech from Hakeem Jeffries, highlighting concerns over the bill's impact on low-income Americans, however; must said his 8-hour, 44-minute filibuster was more bluster than substance.
